online notes software review – Fetchnotes

I have been searching for a different type of online note software for some time. What I wanted was web-based software where I can type short notes and retrieve them fast and easily. Although there are strong players like simplenote and evernote, they are rather meant for notes of considerable length and immediate typing and searching is not very user-friendly with these programs.

Fetchnotes is one of the most promising software I found by chance. The web-based software has the exact features I have been looking for. Fast typing and search through search box and tags on the left and notes on the right side.

The best function I find is the ability to insert tag for any word in the text by simply adding # mark before a word. As soon as you insert tag, the new tag is shown in the left pane.

Saving is automatically done and very fast. Fetchnotes is still in beta stage and free. If you are Mac user, the best description I can give about this software is that it feels like an online version of notational velocity.

Fetchnotes is also available as mobile apps for iPhone and android phone and Mac, Windows and Linux. I tried iPhone app for a while. Although the sync between browser version and the iPhone app is done properly, the app seems to need more improvement in several areas. For example, there are delays when you sync or type on the app, especially when you have weak WiFi signal. With other IOS note apps, even with weak signals such delays are not shown. Compared to web version, IOS app of Fetchnotes leaves something to be desired.

Of course, the web version is not perfect. You cannot sync the notes with dropbox or other cloud service. When I type a long text into a note, searching with words or tags becomes noticeably slow. But this is understandable given the software is still beta.

For a software in the early phase of development, I think Fetchnotes is quite promising one. Visit the website if you need, like me, an online software for short notes.
